Brentford Families - Matthews

Stella White wrote in July 2021:

My grandmother Alice Elizabeth Matthews was born 1888 to William Matthews and his spouse Alice Elizabeth Matthews. I also knew her brother Frederick Matthews and sister Caroline Matthews very well. I understand they were a very poor family.

William was born abt 1855 and Alice abt 1862. According to the 1911 census they had fourteen children, 9 living 5 dead.

The addresses I have are 17, Back Lane, Brentford and 28 Pyrmont Road, Chiswick.

William Matthews worked on the roads and later in life was a road sweeper and Alice worked in a Laundry. I would love to hear from anyone who has any information regarding the Matthews Family.

Brentford has such a unique history and I am constantly amazed how hard working the residents were in providing for such large families often only in a few rooms.

If you have any information about the Matthews family please get in touch and I will forward to Stella.
