1945/6 photo by H. Felton: numbers 403 - 405

view of 3 storey brick built properties

Number 403 has a name "E Young" just visible and records from 1901 to 1940 show an Edward Young resident here, described first as a 'cats' meat man', later as a 'licensed horse slaughterer'.

Numbers 404 and 405 were the premises of 'Glen Engineers Ltd' at the time of the photo. In 1928 numbers 404 & 405 were 'F J Edwards, motor car accessories'; however this may be the same company for whom there are records at TNA '...Joint Enquiry into financial irregularities committed by Thomas Wood (F J Edwards) at various Employment Exchanges...': this enquiry took place in 1928 and by the time of the 1933 trade directory compilation no. 404 was used by 'Premier Boot & Shoe Repair Service'.
