May Queen Party, 1921 or 1922

Diane Elphick (Gardner): the Maypole pictures are about 1921 or 1922, my Mum, Peggy Butcher, is the little girl sitting on the stool. She lived in Walnut Tree Road and went to St George's school, so that may be the area where the girls lived.

The first shows six of the girls dancing around the maypole, the second all eight seated, having completed their dance. The girls all wear special dresses and hair bands or caps, also note their leather ankle boots. They are obviously enjoying themselves.

An enlargement of the second photo, focusing on the girls, follows; perhaps you can recognise your grandmother or mother?

The site also has a 1948 May Queen photo, Ealing Road School and a mystery photo of dancing girls that may be nothing to do with May festivities.

Please get in touch if you can add any names.
