The testator

A James Adderley, painter, lived at around no. 300 High Street in the 1841 census. He was aged 45 (ie 45 to 49) and had a wife Sarah (40-44), son William (10) and daughter Eliza (7), all born in Middlesex. He wrote his will just over 4 weeks after the census took place and died in the first three months of 1842.

There is a marriage of a James Adderley to Sarah DRAPER at Southwark St Saviour in 1820 (Pallot's Marriage Index): which may be relevant.

The witnesses & executor

William NEWMAN: Access to Archives includes reference to a William Newman of Kew, auctioneer in 1848 and a surveyor of this name was living at Kew Green at the time of the 1841 census

Sarah ADDERLEY: the 1851 census shows her as Sarah ALLEN, widow, aged 51, born Strand on the Green living at New North Road (presumably in one of the copyhold properties left by her husband). Living with her were her son William NEWMAN (17) and an elder daughter Mary Ann NEWMAN, who was not at home in the 1841 census.

Sarah's second husband was probably Michael ALLEN: there is a marriage of a Sarah Adderley in Brentford Registration District in 1846 and a Michael ALLEN was recorded with the same page reference.
