The Bull, 350 High Street, early 1900s?

3 storey brick built pub on corner, plaque 'The BULL INN'

Peter Reeve provided this photo of the Bull, which his father, Edward John Reeve, ran from 1933 to 1944.

The photo shows tramlines so is from after 1900. Earlier photos of the Bull (B68) and (D23) show the pub before its rebuild around 1889.

The pub was on the corner of Pottery Road, formerly known as Bull Lane. On the opposite corner the photo shows no. 351, a dairy in directories dating from 1890 to 1933. The barber's pole with sign 'shaving' is no. 352.

Peter has also sent a couple of photos of the Barge Aground, the second pub his father ran in the 1940s: one pre 1940, the other 1940s or 50s.

Details of this area.
